Actors Who Are Secretly Well-Connected Musicians
Musicle Team ·
Some of the people you know best as actors have real, credited music careers sitting quietly in the data, and a few of them are more connected than you'd expect. Here's what actually shows up when you check.
Will Smith and Snoop Dogg, "Pump Ya Brakes"
Long before the Oscar, Will Smith had an entire rap career, and it wasn't a vanity project either. His collaborator list includes Snoop Dogg, Nas, DJ Khaled, and Mary J. Blige, a genuinely credible roster for someone most people primarily think of as an actor first.
Zendaya, Zac Efron, and Hugh Jackman, "The Greatest Show"
All three connected through the same ensemble track from The Greatest Showman, which makes Zendaya a rare case of an actor whose most-connected credits come almost entirely from film musicals rather than a standalone music career. It still counts, and it's still a real, single-move bridge between three actors better known for the screen than the studio.
Jamie Foxx and Ye, "Gold Digger"
One of the biggest songs of the mid-2000s, and a good reminder that Jamie Foxx's music career wasn't a side note, he's an Oscar winner and a genuinely credible R&B and hip-hop collaborator, with Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, T.I., and Ludacris also showing up in his list.
Donald Glover and Beyoncé, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"
Connected through the 2019 Lion King soundtrack, which puts Childish Gambino, a Grammy winner in his own right, directly linked to Beyoncé on a single credit. Glover's collaborator list also includes some genuinely odd entries, "Adventure Time" among them, a reminder that collaboration credits can come from some fairly unexpected corners of a career.
Miley Cyrus and Elton John, "Nothing Else Matters"
Not the pairing you'd guess from the artist names alone, this one comes from Miley's cover of the Metallica classic for The Metallica Blacklist tribute album, also featuring Yo-Yo Ma and Metallica's own Robert Trujillo on the same track. A three-degree connection to Metallica, hiding inside what looks like an unrelated actor-turned-pop-star credit.
Jared Leto, an honest outlier
Jared Leto has fronted Thirty Seconds to Mars for over two decades, and in Musicle's data, that's essentially the only connection he has. One credit, his own band. It's not a knock on the music, more a reminder that a real, long-running career doesn't automatically translate into a well-connected graph node. Some artists just don't feature much, and the data reflects that plainly.
Why this matters for the puzzle
A handful of these names look like pure Hollywood entries until you check their collaborator lists, and a few of them (Will Smith and Jamie Foxx especially) are genuinely useful bridges into hip-hop and R&B if either one shows up mid-puzzle. Others, Leto being the clearest example, are essentially dead ends. Worth knowing which is which before you click.
