The Most Connected Afrobeats Artists in Music

Musicle Team ·

Afrobeats went from a regional sound to a genuine global chart fixture in under a decade, and the collaboration data shows exactly how that happened: through a small number of extremely well-connected hub artists who kept working with pop, hip-hop, and even K-pop acts far outside the genre.

The most-connected names in Afrobeats

Artist Credited collaborators
Davido 131
Burna Boy 113
Mr Eazi 88
Tiwa Savage 69
Yemi Alade 64
Rema 63
Stonebwoy 60
Olamide 55
Amaarae 47
Diamond Platnumz 35

Davido is the connector, not just the headliner

With 131 collaborators, Davido's list reads like a map of where Afrobeats has already landed: Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, David Guetta, Normani, Disclosure. One of the more unexpected names in there is actor Idris Elba, credited on "Vroom," a reminder that some of music's best-connected names started somewhere else entirely. Davido is also part of "Hayya Hayya (Better Together)," the official song of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, alongside Trinidad Cardona and Aisha.

Burna Boy's graph reaches almost every genre on this site

At 113 collaborators, Burna Boy might be the single widest-reaching artist in Musicle's entire dataset. His list includes Coldplay's Chris Martin, credited twice, on "WE PRAY" and "Monsters You Made", plus Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Justin Bieber, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, Shakira, Mick Jagger, and K-pop group TWICE. It's basically a working demonstration of one graph, every genre: Burna Boy is often only one or two moves from an artist who has nothing to do with Afrobeats at all.

"Afrobeat" and "Afrobeats" are not the same thing

It's easy to mix up. Fela Kuti pioneered "Afrobeat," no S, in Lagos in the 1970s, fusing funk, jazz, and highlife. His son Femi Kuti (22 collaborators) carries that specific lineage forward. "Afrobeats," the modern pop genre topping the table above, is a different, if related, thing. Both are real, and both show up in Musicle's graph.

The takeaway for your next move

Afrobeats artists are unusually efficient hub nodes precisely because they bridge into pop, hip-hop, K-pop, and Latin music so often. If you land on Davido or Burna Boy mid-puzzle, you're frequently one or two moves from a completely different genre's biggest names.
