The Most Connected Gospel Artists in Music
Musicle Team ·
Gospel gets treated as its own separate lane in most music conversations, but the collaboration data tells a different story: its biggest names are deeply wired into hip-hop, R&B, and pop, not walled off from them.

Kirk Franklin is basically a bridge artist
No one else in gospel comes close to Kirk Franklin's number, and the list of names he's connected to explains why: Chance the Rapper, Mary J. Blige, Lil Baby, Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams, even Mariah Carey on a Christmas track. He's spent three decades pulling gospel choirs into the same rooms as mainstream hip-hop and R&B artists, and the data reflects exactly that career strategy.
Worship music's newer names are already competitive
Maverick City Music didn't exist as a collective until 2019, and it's already sitting at 53, ahead of gospel veterans who've been recording for twice as long. Contemporary worship music leans heavily on collective projects with rotating features, which behaves a lot more like a pop or hip-hop collaboration model than a traditional solo-artist one.
A name that almost made this list
Anthony Hamilton isn't primarily a gospel artist, he's a soul singer with 123 credited collaborators, mostly hip-hop guest verses. We left him off the table above because his catalog doesn't read as gospel, but it's worth naming: some of music's most gospel-rooted voices built their real career numbers well outside the genre that shaped them.
The payoff for solvers
If a gospel or worship artist turns up in your collaborator list, Kirk Franklin is disproportionately likely to be your fastest way out, same idea as our other genre breakdowns: a handful of names in every genre do most of the connecting work.
As always, these numbers are live, pulled straight from the graph behind today's puzzle.
